KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor urged the country’s young women to persevere in their struggle to strengthen themselves and be brave enough to enter critical fields such as medicine, engineering, aerospace and nano-technology.

The Prime Minister’s wife said, as the successor group, they should continue to be relevant with regards to development and constantly work at enhancing their capabilities.

“Only then ladies, can you stand on par with men. I hope you will not be easily discouraged because success needs high levels of commitment and focus,” she said at the 2012 National Young Women’s Gathering at the Putra World Trade Centre, here yesterday.

“We should not be weakened by words which can make us fall. Even I, often hear not very nice stories about myself. But it does not affect me at all because I have to move on for the sake of my husband, children, country, Barisan Nasional and also for the young women,” she said.

Therefore, Rosmah wanted women to explore and expand beyond Malaysia and set a benchmark in any field at a global level, as an achievement on par with the women of developed countries.

“This event is a very good and relevant platform for women to get exposure in various fields, share knowledge and experience and network,” she said.

Meanwhile, Puteri Umno chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said, “Young women are a priceless asset to the country and should be guided to an intact and strong level of preparedness at all times.”

The gathering, with its four main themes of Inspiration, Dedication, Expression and Aspiration (IDEA), is capable of propelling the spirit and determination of the nation’s young women, she said. — Bernama
