Concert delights crowd with musical variety

KOTA KINABALU: Forty-five talented mucisians of Permata Seni Muzik (PSM) entertained the crowd at the PSM Concert held at the National Cultural and Arts Department on Saturday, with their music repertoire ranging from Classical, Arabic, Movie Theme, Malay and even Dusun songs.

A total of 16 songs were performed by children aged between eight and 15, while the others comprised of 40 string musicians, two pianists, one guitarist and two percussionists.

The PSM orchestra, based in Kuala Lumpur and under the supervision of Istana Budaya, was conducted by prominent musical director Mustafa Fuzer Nawi.

The performance was divided into four segments, namely Western and Classical Music, Malaysian Local Pop Songs, Western Popular Music and Movie Themes and Arabic Popular Songs.

Among the Malay songs played by the young mucisians during the concert were a medley of local hits; Azizah and Sue Sue Kemuning from P. Ramlee, a medley of local Pop singers songs, Bila Aku Sudah Tiada by Hujan, Cinta Muka Buku by Najwa Latif and Pokok by Meet Uncle Hussain.

The Sabah songs performed included a pot-pourri of local favourites like Tinggi-Tinggi Gunung Kinabalu, Jambatan Tamparuli and Tanak Kampung which inevitably delighted the crowd present.
