MIRI: Police are investigating allegations of a few men impersonating policemen and traffic police as reported in the local press recently.

Miri District police chief, ACP Mun Kock Keong when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday said they would look into the matter and take stern action against the culprits.

“We knew about the case and are investigating,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

On Dec 2, the assistant manager of an oil palm company here lost his Toyota Hilux and other valuables to two men posing as traffic cops.

He was on his way back home from a cafe at Kwang Tung Road here when the two impersonators stopped his car beside the road.

One of the suspects was dressed in uniform resembling a traffic policeman while the other in a T-shirt.

The victim was directed to sit in the passenger seat.

The suspect then got into the Hilux and asked for the victim’s driving licence and identity card.

Soon after, the second suspect wearing the plain T-shirt dragged the victim from his vehicle.

The duo fled the scene in the Hilux.

In another case, two civil servants impersonating policemen took the victim’s mobile phones after accusing him of drug possession on Dec 2.

The duo had been arrested by Miri police and were remanded for four days from Dec 3 to facilitate investigation.
