LondonCabs survey does not reflect whole picture

KUALA LUMPUR: The report which claimed that Malaysia’s taxi drivers were the worst in the world does not reflect the whole picture of the national taxi service industry, the Dewan Negara was told yesterday.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the survey, conducted by a London-based taxi company, was only on city or budget taxi services and covered only the aspects of meter usage and condition of the taxis.

He was replying to a question from Senator Datuk Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah on the taxis in Kuala Lumpur claimed to have the worst drivers, according to a survey by LondonCabs.co.uk.

Ahmad said a local taxi company, Airport Limo (M) Sdn Bhd, had received a four-star award from Skytrax, an independent body that evaluates the performance of airport services around the world.

“Through this recognition, it proves that we have good taxi services which are also comparable to those in developed countries as no other airport taxi company in the world has received a five-star rating,” he said.

Ahmad said the measures undertaken by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in changing the local taxi industry landscape to a more efficient and viable one was by introducing the 1Malaysia People’s Taxi (TR1Ma) initiative.
