Human Rights Run, Exhibition and Concert at UMS Stadium today

KOTA KINABALU: The Human Rights Run, Exhibition and Concert 2012 begin today, 8 December, at UMS Stadium.

The event, jointly organized by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) with Kinabalu Running Club, PACOS Trust, The Yellow Dots and Youth-Prep Centre, commemorates the World Human Rights Day which falls on December 10 annually.

The teams which have registered to participate in the Human Rights Run but have not received their Runners’ Packs are advised to be at the UMS Stadium between 11am and 2pm today to collect them.

The runners’ packs contain the free Human Rights Day Relay Run T-shirts, towers and running bibs.

A briefing will be held for all runners at 2:30pm and Suhakam chairman Tan Sri Hasmy Agam, will flag off the Relay Run at 3pm sharp.

All volunteers are also requested to be ready at the UMS Stadium by 11am for another briefing before taking up their stations and tasks during the event.

Apart from the Relay Run, there will also be an exciting array of exhibition on human rights and sale of products from several government departments (such as the Prisons Department, Sabah Sports Board, the Police Force etc.), non-governmental organizations (including PACOS Trust, Borneo International Marathon, Kadazan-Dusun Language Foundation and Youth Prep Centre) as well as other promotional enterprises.

There will also be a blood donation drive during the event. Food stalls will be opened at 11:00am to cater for runners and members of the public present at the venue.

A non-stop concert featuring eleven local hands comprising of Melody Chain, Buzzing Joker, Projek A.M.B, Chamomile, Likes Bulbul, Blackbird, Plumfield, Sasuka, Ben-G, Boil and Magagung together with interludes from gong beaters will kick off at 1.00pmto entertain the crowd. The theme for the Human Rights Concert is ‘United 4 Rights’.

Admission to both the exhibition and concert is free of charge and open to the public.
