SANDAKAN: A 19-year-old woman from the Philippines was found dead with multiple stab wounds in a drain near a vehicle workshop at Mile 3, Sedco Road yesterday morning.
According to acting police chief Superintendent Fadzil Mohd Ali, the police carried out investigation at the scene after receiving a call at 6.55am.
He said the victim, identified as IMM13 holder Arwidah Binti Misran, was believed to be her way home from her night shift job when she was attacked.
Her body was found in a pool of blood in the two-foot deep drain, he said.
“The deceased, who was clad in black pants and a blouse, was found by a passer-by who was crossing the road,” Fadzil said, adding that the victim’s handbag was found near her body.
He said police found several stab wounds on the victim’s body, including her chest and neck, and the victim was believed to have been killed shortly before the discovery of her body.
The body was later taken to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for an autopsy and the case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for the capital punishment.
Fadzil urged members of the public with information on the incident to visit a nearby police station to assist in their investigation.
