LIMBANG: The government does not neglect good moral values while bringing balanced and fair development to all communities in its effort to make the country a developed nation.

When saying this, Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan reminded the people not to break the bonds that bind them and to preserve the harmonious relationship they enjoy now in the spirit of tolerance and mutual understanding.

The government, on its part, he added, had introduced and implemented various programmes to encourage the people to come together such as the Neighbourhood Committee and Volunteer Patrolling Scheme.

“As Malaysian citizens, we need to have high values and moral and be courteous to each other.

“Snobbishness, insulting other races and blaming each other are signs of impoliteness that could jeopardise the existing harmonious relationship,” he warned at Limbang District Cultural Unity Dinner on Saturday evening.

His text of speech was read by Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah.

Also present at the event were Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Limbang walikota Sufian Mohat.

Awang Tengah added that without unity, harmony, political stability, social and economic growth, it would be difficult for the country to achieve its vision to be a developed nation.

“Unity in this multi-cultural and racial country is vital to preserve the peace and harmony that we are enjoying now,” he said.

On another subject, he said there were 611 neighbourhood committees in Sarawak, including 39 in Limbang District.

“Neighbourhood committees are established in residential areas, villages, longhouses and urban areas to foster good relationship among the local community through various programmes that involve people from all races, cultures and religions,” he added.

During the event, neighbourhood committees from Pekan, Pabahanan, Lubuk Aur, Pundut and Tabahan received their awards.
