KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) is doing its best to aid Dayak youths apply for government jobs.

When contacted yesterday, SDNU vice-president Anthony Banyan said various Dayak organisations were all ready to assist rural Dayak youths in the matter.

As of yesterday, no ball park figure on the number of registration could be determined as all these NGOs and associations were conducting their own initiatives.

What was most notable was that the whole state was covered and that every Dayak youth was given the opportunity to register.

“SDNU is grateful that the Public Service Commission (PSC) has entrusted this union to become the information bridge for rural youths in regards to this matter. This roadshow, apart from the numerous publicity raised in various media outlets, is one of the ways to provide opportunities to the rural community to register and apply for jobs in the government sector.

“PSC has given us the chance to register as many Dayak youths as possible and not confined to the 100,000 initial target by the end of Dec 31. There is no time limit nor are there any limitations given to the number of Dayak applicants,” he said when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.

Anthony said: “The registration exercise is not a government gimmick leading to the 13th general election but an honest effort by PSC in responding to the plea of SDNU to help the rural community. I urge the Dayak community not to criticise or give any negative implications on this effort.”

The SDNU roadshow, done in collaboration with PSC, to register Dayak applicants kicked off on Nov 15 at Pakan, Saratok.

About 1,100 people registered with the PSC database at Kanowit and Betong last weekend. For the record, at Dewan Panglima Rentap in Betong on Sunday, SDNU managed to register more than 600 applicants, including those from Lubok Antu and Engkilili.

At Kanowit on Dec 15, more than 500 youths including those from Julau registered their names.

Today, the roadshow will be at Kapit before heading to Sibu on Dec 22, where it will be held at Dewan Wei Kuok Methodist. On Dec 23, the roadshow will be at Selangau.
