BAU: Mambong MP Datuk Dr James Dawos has promised to chart out an economic strategy in an effort to lift the economy of the people in the area.

He said the constituency has already enjoyed basic development like water and electricity supply, and infrastructure like roads and next on the agenda was to improve the economy of the people in the area.

“If I am re-elected (in the coming general election), I will concentrate more on economic development of the people in the area so that the people can earn more income,” the Deputy Tourism Minister pointed out at a Christmas gathering at Kampung Skio, here.

The gathering, organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bengoh branch, was also a venue for party members to mingle, and prepare for the coming election.

Dawos, who is also PBB Bengoh branch chairman, mentioned that he would definitely develop the tourism sector for the people in the constituency.

“We have many tourism potential in the area from Penrissen to Bau where the people can participate.”

“So, this is one area that I will look seriously at,” he added.

Dawos, who has been widely tipped to defend the seat for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election, urged voters in the area to reject Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

He explained that the state BN component parties, being local based parties understand local needs and rights, thus deserved to be given the mandate to become government.

“PR cannot be accepted here (in Sarawak) because we the component parties in the state are all local political parties and we know how to protect our rights, including our Immigration and NCR land rights.

“BN objective is to develop the state, country and the people. In short BN brings ‘fortune’ to the people,” he stressed.

Dawos further said that PR, which is headed by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim could not be trusted for reasons that Anwar when becoming Finance Minister has failed to fulfill his many promises.

He was confident that Mambong parlimentary constituency would continue to become BN stronghold.

Meanwhile, PBB Bengoh deputy chairman Sora Rusah earlier said the party branch was fully behind Dawos and that he be renominated as candidate in the coming general election.

He added that Dawos since becoming MP in 1999 has brought much changes and development in the area.

Other BN component party members were also present at the event, which also saw the presentation of new PBB membership cards.
