KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA) has been urged to explore and venture into various disciplines of knowledge such as information technology.

The call came from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman yesterday when launching the 26th USIA Annual General Assembly at USIA Building.

“The various disciplines of knowledge includes science and technology and management skills which are very important to ensure that the association is more effective and has quality.

“As an organisation synonymous with welfare of the Muslims in Sabah, USIA must diversify its services such as to cover economy, education, skills and many other things as part of an effort in playing its role to spread the teachings of Islam.

“With that reason, USIA must continue its transformation process according to the current situations. USIA must also be respected as an organisation which is developing according to the times,” said Musa whose speech was read by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin.

Musa added the state government would always support the activities of USIA as long as it is helping in developing and contributing to the nation-building and human capital.

Meanwhile, USIA patron Tun Sakaran Dandai when delivering his welcoming speech, said USIA must work together with the State government to ensure that the association would take care of the welfare of Muslims in the State.

He added that USIA should learn many things from the past, and improve its performance to give the association a chance to develop and stay relevant to the people.

During the event yesterday, Koperasi Pembangunan Usahasama Masyarakat Maju handed over RM208,448.52 business tithe to USIA.
