Situation in flood-hit Kelantan and Terengganu continues to improve

KUALA LUMPUR: The situation in flood-hit Kelantan and Terengganu continued to improve, with the number of evacuees at relief centres dropping to 17,512 yesterday evening from 22,522 in the morning.

The floodwaters in Pahang have receded completely, allowing the remaining 182 evacuees at the relief centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Galing, Kuantan, to return to their homes at 9am.

In Terengganu, floodwaters have receded completely in the Setiu, Marang and Besut districts, leaving 15,529 evacuees at relief centres, with 3,340 of them in Dungun, 11,161 in Kemaman, 1,002 in Kuala Terengganu and 26 in Hulu Terengganu.

The floods in Terengganu have claimed six lives.

In Kelantan, the number of evacuees in the Tumpat district dropped to 1,983 from 4,726 morning.

The evacuees in the Pasir Mas and Kota Baharu districts have returned to their homes. — Bernama
