Maxis announces appointment of new CEO effective July 1, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR:  Maxis Berhad is pleased to announce the appointment of Johan Dennelind as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who will officially take office beginning 1 July 2013.  He succeeds Sandip Das who will remain on the Board as a Non-Executive Director. He will be reporting to the Chairman of the Board.  Dennelind has also been appointed to the Board as an Executive Director.

Johan brings to Maxis his vast management experience in the telecommunications sector, having served at Senior Leadership positions in telecommunications companies in different countries, including Malaysia over the last 13 years.

He is a member of Vodafone’s CEO Senior Leadership Team and is currently CEO Vodacom International.  In his present role, Johan oversees all Vodacom sub-Saharan activities outside South Africa serving some 20 million customers.  During his stewardship, these businesses have reported strong growth and improved margins.

Johan knows Malaysia well, having served at DiGi.COM Berhad, Malaysia for 6 years.

In 2004, he was appointed as chief financial officer (CFO) and later as chief marketing officer (CMO), during which time DiGi established a significant market presence.

In 2008, he was appointed as CEO and under his leadership, DiGi emerged as one of the leading telecommunications company in Malaysia.

Johan joined the Telenor group in 1999 where he was responsible for business development and mergers and acquisitions of Nextra, a Pan European B2B internet/communications service provider fully owned by Telenor.

In 2000, he was appointed as CFO of Telenor AB, Sweden, a fixed and internet service provider and subsequently became its deputy CEO in 2002 where he successfully implemented cost management initiatives and established a strong platform for further growth in Sweden.

Johan holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from University of Orebro, Sweden and has also attended Executive Management Programmes at INSEAD and the London Business School.
