SIBU: A detainee in the murder of a 30-year-old mechanic on Dec 31, 2012 was released on police bail at 9am yesterday after his four-day remand order expired.

Wong Bing Huat @ Tian Pa Huat, 40, walked out of Sibu Central Police Station at 9.40am accompanied by his lawyer Darren Ling.

Wong turned himself in at the police station here last Wednesday afternoon.

Eye-witnesses called to the police station did not recognise Wong.

There was no proof that Wong was at the scene. He claimed he was in his workshop when the assault took place.

The police are hot on the heels of another suspect Yong Ngie Ung, 35, nicknamed Lao San.

Mechanic Hii Teck Luk, 30, was killed in the 1am brawl with four strangers outside a pub at Pahlawan Road.

He succumbed to two stab wounds at Sibu Hospital at 8am.

Both Wong and Yong had previously been detained under the Emergency Ordinance for committing violent crimes.

Wong had also been placed under restricted residence in Kelantan.
