SPA to hold briefing and online job registration

MIRI: The Public Service Commission (SPA) will hold a briefing and online job registration exercise tomorrow (Jan 12) at the civic centre.

It is coordinated by the Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Sarawak Malaysia (Forum) with the help of the Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association, Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) and Dayak Association Miri (DAM).

School leavers from the Dayak community, especially Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) holders, as well as those with diplomas and degrees are encouraged to attend the event from 8am to 12.30pm.

Forum president Gerawat Gala said the objective is to get more members of the Dayak community to join the civil service.

“Those who have previously applied can also come and check the status of their applications online,” Gerawat told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said the briefing will include tips on preparing for and attending SPA interviews to enhance candidates’ chances of qualifying for jobs with the government.

Candidates are required to bring along their identity cards and academic certificates and testimonials for on the spot registration.

SPA staff will assist them with the applications and registration.

Gerawat added that the exercise is part of SPA’s statewide roadshow to reach out to and register as many applicants as possible.

It was in response to the challenge issued by SPA chairman Tan Sri Mahmood Adam following complaints of relatively low numbers of Dayak community members in government service.

“We have also asked our collaborators to inform their respective members and their communities.

“We target to gather at least 500 for the exercise in Dewan Suarah Miri. Of course the bigger the number the better,” he said, adding that a similar programme will be held in Marudi on Jan 16 at the civic centre there, followed by Long Lama on Jan 19.
