SIBU: It will be foolhardy for the opposition to think that they will have a ‘field day’ in Lubok Antu this general election, PRS deputy president Datuk Joseph Entulu said yesterday, pointing out that Lubok Antu had always been a BN stronghold.

“The opposition is just ‘testing the water’ there to see if they can make inroad this coming general election. Don’t insult the intelligence of the rural folk by painting a negative picture of the government and its development efforts.

“There are positive vibes on the ground as PRS is expected to better its performance this election,” Entulu, who is Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Selangau MP, told The Borneo Post.

State PKR vice-chairman See Chee How has expressed optimism that Lubok Antu would be among the seats they could win this election.

He said PKR branches there would most likely recommend Nicholas Bawin Anggat as a candidate there as he (Nicholas) had been working very hard on the ground despite several setbacks in past elections.

Lubok Antu MP William Nyallau Badak from PRS beat Nicholas at the 2008 election with a majority of 1,610 votes.

Meanwhile, the predominantly Iban-majority constituency would most likely witness a multi-cornered fight this election. SWP has vowed to contest in all the six parliamentary seats currently held by PRS.

SNAP has also expressed intention to contest in its traditional seats, namely Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, Saratok and Baram.
