KUALA LUMPUR: The Girl Guides Association of Malaysia has been advised to inculcate volunteerism in its programmes to produce a loving and caring society, especially towards the needy.

The Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said, besides empowering the 1Malaysia Concept, volunteerism among association members would result in a non-individualistic younger generation.

Rosmah, who is also president of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia, said the value was in line with their slogan and philosophy ‘Always Ready’, ‘Care Giving’ and ‘Help People Always’.

“Through community activities, the Girl Guides provides a platform to the public, especially the target group, to inculcate a caring attitude, volunteerism and love among our girls.

“I am confident this programme can expose the Girl Guides on humanitarian efforts as well as build skills in communication, cooperation and interaction,” she said.

Rosmah said this when launching the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides Association programme with the disabled at Wisma Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia, Brickfields yesterday.

Also present was Girl Guides Association of Malaysia deputy president Raja Puan Muda Perak Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides Association president, Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng.

At the event, Rosmah also presented cash of RM300 each to 20 members from less fortunate families, RM3,000 to the Self Reliance Centre for the Deaf, Wisma Harapan Association for Mentally Handicapped Children and Malaysia Association for the Blind and RM1,000 to Sekolah Kebangsaan Brickfields 1. — Bernama
