KUCHING: The requiem Mass for former Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kuching, Rt Revd Datuk Made Katib will be held at the St Thomas’ Cathedral at 10am today.

After the service, he will be laid to rest at the Anglican Cemetery at Jalan Batu Kitang.

According to the Archbishop of the province of South East Asia Most Revd Datuk Bolly Lapok, Made was a spiritually deep and a disciplined person.

Speaking during the wake held at the St Thomas’s Cathedral yesterday he also described Made as a man who was influential and knew what he wanted.

Also at the wake was Bishop Aeries Sumping Jingan who described Made as humble, quiet and a very knowledgeable person.

“He is a Bidayuh from Annah Rais who spoke Iban flawlessly which came as an advantage when he was in the Betong ministry,” said Aeries.

He also said that it was in Betong where Made met his wife, Matilda Thomas Ng.

The couple was blessed with a daughter, Elvina Mary Made.

Made’s cousin, John Hawang, 72 said that both of them grew up together in Annah Rais, Padawan and described him as a diligent person coming from a very humble background.

“Being poor did not stop him from excelling in his studies,” said John adding that he went to St Thomas’ secondary school here for his secondary school education.

John added that after form six Made went to Leeds University to pursue his Bachelor of Arts before being offered in Bachelor of Theology.

By coincidence today the day of Made’s funeral is also his birthday as he was born on Jan 23, 1942.
