Abit hands over grant to JKKK of Penan Long Wat

KAPIT: Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Billy Abit Joo presented a grant of RM3,000 to the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Penan Long Wat recently.

The simple handover ceremony was held at the Bakun Resettlement Scheme (BRS) in Sungai Asap.

Receiving the grant on behalf of Penan Long Wat JKKK was Labang Paneh who is also the newly elected chairman of Murum Penan Development Committee.

This was just one of the grants handed out to all Penan longhouses in Belaga with each JKKK receiving RM3,000 from the government to assist them to carry out JKKK activities this year, Abit said.

He said that many longhouses in Penan areas did not previously have JKKK bank accounts and was happy to note that they have successfully opened their accounts recently.

Abit explained that the accounts were needed to enable their longhouses to receive Minor Rural Project grants and other forms of assistance for longhouse development from the government.

Various Penan headmen from Murum and all members of the Murum Penan Development Committee were present to witness the handover of the grant.
