KUCHING: Around 250 selected students in the state will be provided with scholarships when they sign up for first intake of the Association of Business Executives (ABE) United Kingdom programmes at Masterskill Global College (MGC) Kuching this April.

“Our first intake of students will be on April 15 and we are recruiting some 1,000 students across Malaysia who will be given financial assistance,” said MGC (Marketing & Strategy) senior vice-president Datuk Dr Jayles Yeoh.

He was speaking to reporters following the accreditation visit by ABE founder chairman Lyndon Jones and ABE director of international partnerships Dr Penelope Hood here yesterday.

According to him, MGC, known for its holistic education in nursing and allied health programmes in the country, is moving into the area of business programes at its Kuching campus.

“We will continue with our health science programmes and will also be offering diploma courses by ABE, an examination and membership body based in New Malden, just outside London, which emphasises affordable, high quality and internationally recognised business qualifications worldwide,” Yeoh said, adding that the British education course modules come in CDs which will be provided to students.

“The courses are also recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and those who finish the advanced diploma level will be allowed final year entry into UK programmes.’”

With approximately 50,000 students worldwide, ABE is also recognised as an awarding body by the UK Government’s regulator, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations as well as equivalent bodies worldwide, and its qualifications are all on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

ABE offers Diplomas in Business Management (with additional pathways in Financial Management and Management of Information Systems), Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Yeoh presented the 1Malaysia Student Discount Card (KADS1M) to 29 student representatives of MGC Kuching which would be distributed to the college’s 842 students.

The students receiving the discount cards were from five courses: Diploma in Healthcare, Diploma in Medical Lab Tech, Diploma in Physiotherapy, Diploma in Environmental Health and Foundation in Health Science.

Also present at the event were MGC (Operations) senior vice-president Major Van Weng Hong and MGC Kuching centre manager Dr Satiadass Vethanayagam.
