CAUSING ANXIETY: This damaged lamp post is at the Jalan Landeh-Jalan Borneo Heights junction.

KUCHING: PKR has urged the authorities to fix a damaged lamppost and provide more street lights in Kampung Landeh near here.

Its Wanita vice-chief Voon Shiak Ni said the broken lamppost, with the upper part dangling precariously, posed a danger to road users.

“It is broken and left hanging there. Not totally broken into halves yet, and that is why it is very dangerous to road users especially at night and during rainy days.

“I have no clue when the lamp post was damaged, but it can be clearly seen as one passes by the road. The lamp post stands right at the Jalan Landeh-Jalan Borneo Heights junction,” she told a news conference here yesterday.

Voon said she had received many complaints on the broken lamp post from residents of Kampung Landeh.

“A sign ‘Awas’ (Caution) has been put up there but this is not good enough. MPP (Padawan Municipal Council) should attend to the problem as soon as it can.”

She added that Syarikat Sesco Bhd should also pay more attention to damaged public facilities to avert untoward incidents.

According to her, residents and road users in Kampung Landeh and the surrounding areas had also lamented about the lack of street lighting there.

“The street lights at a couple of lanes in Landeh are not working. Hence, the area becomes dark at night which goes without saying is dangerous for road users especially motorcyclists.

“Authorities like MPP and Sesco must be more sensitive to community problems such as these. It is fortunate that no incident occurs yet, but when it does, it will be on Sesco because of its negligence.”
