KUCHING: Golden Arches Restaurant Sdn Bhd (GAR), the operator of McDonald’s restaurant in Malaysia, has entered into a lease agreement with developer Chong Kia Hoi Realty Sdn Bhd (CKH Realty) to operate McDonald’s drive-thru restaurant.
The 24-hour drive-thru outlet will be located at MetroCity Matang New Township, occupying a double-storey standalone building fronting Jalan Matang Lama. It will also include a McCafe within.
CKH Realty managing director (MD), Chong Kia Hoi explained that the developer was in the process of widening Jalan Matang Lama into a 46-metre wide four-lane carriageway with signalised junction.
“The upgraded four-lane carriageway will ease traffic congestion along Jalan Matang Lama and provide fast access to MetroCity from the city centre, the new Kubah Ria and Medan Niaga Satok,” he said.
Chong added that construction works for MetroCity shops was on schedule with piling works completed for half of the 314 units. CKH Realty aimed to complete all of the shops by the first quarter of 2015 but both of the township’s drive-thru restaurants, KFC and McDonald’s would be operational earlier, estimated to be by the first quarter of 2014.
The MD revealed that the developer had been in negotiations with two medical groups pertaining to the operation of MetroCity’s private medical centre and adjoining hotel site.
“Our township’s medical and hotel site was specially designed to cater to the medical tourism industry. We are confident of signing up with an operator very soon,” said Chong who was also aiming to launch the residential properties at MetroCity by the end of the year.
CKH Realty expects to build over 1,000 residential units ranging from apartments and condominiums to terraces and semi-detached houses.
MetroCity is a 183-acre billion-ringgit integrated township development sited along Jalan Matang Lama, less than five kilometers away from the city centre of Kuching.
