SMK Batu Lintang continue to dominate the pool

NEW CHAMPIONS: SJK Chung Hua No. 2 emerged as the new champions of the primary schools competition at the end of the 25th Kuching Age Group Swimming Championships on Sunday.

KUCHING: SMK Batu Lintang continue to dominate secondary school swimming in the 25th Kuching Age Group Swimming Championships at Aquatic Centre, Youth and Sports Complex yesterday when they retained their overall champions title with 872 points.

The star performer was Sukma swimmer Angela Chieng Chui Fei who splashed to 13 gold and three silver medals as well as breaking two meet records in the process.

Angela erased the old record of 5:31.05s in the Girls 15-17 400m individual medley set by Erika Kong in 2011 when she clocked 5:20.91s on the first day of the annual swimming championship.

She also bettered the 50m butterfly record of 2:32.87s set by Choulyee Tan in 2000 with a new time of 2:28.71s.

For her excellent performance in the two-day meet, the 15-year-old swimmer was also adjudged the best swimmer in the Girls Group 1.

The best swimmers in Girls Group 2, 3, 4 and 5 were Zoe Tan of St Joseph’s Private School (nine golds, two silvers, two bronzes), Tan Tyng of SJK Chung Hua No. 1 (11 golds), Rachel Chang of SK St Mary (10 golds)and Andrea Teo of SJK No. 2 (10 golds) respectively.
