KUCHING: PurpleLily is the signature project of Soroptimist International Kuching, a non-profit organisation (NGO) serving women in Sarawak.

PurpleLily started operation on May 1 last year by offering Life Skills and Financial Literacy programme to women in the region.

“Our vision is to inspire and empower women to thrive and shine. It has been a great opportunity for us to meet local women and present a short introduction to the organisation,” it said in a statement.

Most women would benefit from its workshops as PurpleLily caters mainly to women who are considered the working poor. These women have jobs, skills and potential but may be restricted by low income.

Over 500 women have participated in its workshops conducted predominately in English, with the team working hard to translate courses so workshops can be held in Bahasa Malaysia by local facilitators.

The workshops deal with topics like Self-Confidence, Goal Setting, Mind Mapping, Presentation Skills, Communication Skills, Leadership, Stress Management, Positive Thinking, Five Healthy Habits, Self-Esteem and Financial Literacy.

PurpleLily associates with well known NGOs, notably Perkata School, Pitsa and SWWS to conduct a series of workshops with weavers, secondary schools and small groups of women who ask for specific workshops.

“We believe that through training and support, PurpleLily can build skills and confidence to create a brighter future,” according to its statement.

PurpleLily is in need of financial support to keep expanding and serving more women in Kuching and the state.

“We are looking for new participants and welcome any organisation (NGOs or corporate entities) to work with us and help our mission to support women by providing tools, building skills and creating opportunities to reach their full potential,” it said.
