KUCHING: Cha Yi Trading Sdn Bhd (Cha Yi), a leading snack food enterprise and hamper packer here, has brought a specialty item for Chinese New Year Eve, along with healthy snacks foods and super value hampers for the upcoming annual festival.

At a press conference yesterday, the company’s general manager Poh Kim Kwang pointed out that the focus would normally be on treats during the first few days of festive season but Cha Yi had brought something unique for the family dinner gathering on the eve of the lunar year.

“Chinese New Year Eve is actually a time for the gathering of all the family members and special dishes would have to be prepared because it is an important once-a-year affair.

“We have undertaken some market research and realised that it takes a lot of work to prepare some ingredients such as shark’s fin in order to cook the family dinner on the New Year eve.

“We found that we can help consumers sort this out by bringing in and introducing a ready-to-eat item that can be prepared quickly without time-consuming work,” Poh stated.

As such, he presented ‘Buddha Jumps Over The Wall’, a sumptuous prepackaged mixture of delicacies with key ingredients such as scallops, abalone from South Africa, shark’s fin, shrimp, various types of mushrooms, chestnuts and black fungus in a braised soup.

The imported pre-mix from Taiwan was packed in cans under high temperature and high pressure conditions and caould be stored at room temperature for up to three years.

To cater for families of various sizes, Buddha Jumps Over The Wall comes in three different sizes with net weights of 400 grammes (g) for two persons, 1.7 kilogrammes (kg) for six persons and 6.8kg which could cater to up to 12 people.

The largest size is priced at RM1,380 and comes with a presentation bowl while the 1.7kg and 400g packages cost RM380 and RM128 respectively. All three are attractively boxed and decorated for the festive mood.

The general manager also presented healthy dried fruits and nuts imported from Singapore-based Tai Sun Food Industries, sold under the Premium Collection and Nature’s Wonders monikers.

The items included sun-dried apricots from Turkey, lotus seeds from Vietnam, strawberries, cranberries, raisins from the US, as well as pistachios and almonds with the country of origin stated on the label.

Poh highlighted that all products carried three elements in that they were natural, healthy and of high quality in terms of size and freshness.

For example, the dried apricots were thick and ripened when they were dried such that the taste was richer and sweeter; the pistachios were all-natural without any bleaching, flavouring, colouring or preservatives added.

He revealed that along with attractive hampers for Chinese New Year coming in various sizes and prices, Cha Yi had a special hamper with healthy items and zero sugar products; these were priced at RM 169 each and in limited quantities.

Cha Yi’s premises located at Lot 9759, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim would be open from 8am to 9pm every day till Chinese New Year Eve when it would be open for half-day business. For more information, call 082-480464.
