KOTA KINABALU:  It will be a busy year for City Hall with scores of development and upgrading plans in the cards.

Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said with the success in the implementation of the 5K Programme in the state capital, Kota Kinabalu City Hall is now expanding it to the sub-urban areas.

He said the 5K Programme, which refers to Keindahan, Kebersihan, Keselamatan, Keteraturan dan Kesejahteraan (Beautification, Cleanliness, Security, Orderliness and Well-being), will be expanded to Telipok and Inanam, as well as nearby areas.

He said they hoped to execute the second phase of the 5K Programme, continue with the Sembulan River Beautification Project, build a new pavilion at Padang Merdeka, upgrade the stretches in the city as well as upgrade the water piping to housing areas here.

“Touching on cleanliness in the city, we will continue to beautify the landscape along the main roads around the state capital, apart from upgrading the public facilities here.

“We also hope to upgrade the City Park area, located just opposite the City Hall building, if we have the allocation.

“We realise that the people’s demands are getting greater, but we will work out the best solution to overcome these problems,” he said during the Flag Raising ceremony held in conjunction with the City Day celebration.

Madingkir also urged department heads to be in the know of the situation and urged them to go down to the ground at all times.

He also called on the City Hall officers and staff to maintain their quality of work and be disciplined to ensure they provide the best services to the people.

“We will not be hesitant to take the necessary action on those who slack,” he said.

At the event, Madingkir also presented the Mayor’s Excellence Medal to deserving staff from the Enforcement Department.
