Teacher among two killed in crash

RANAU: A head-on collision between a car and a four-wheel-drive vehicle at Kampung Matupang, Km 40, Ranau-Telupid road on Saturday claimed two lives and left one serious injured.

The dead were identified as Haris Palisan, 26, and 29-year-old teacher Fuzianah Dominding, who were traveling in the Perodua MyVi car which collided with a Nissan Navara.

According to Ranau police chief DSP Abdul Rahman Kassim, the duo died at the scene of the 5pm accident and their bodies were trapped in the wrecked car, while the driver, identified as Lin Jia Yeh, 21, suffered a broken left leg.

He said initial police investigation showed Haris had lost control of the car which swerved into the path of the oncoming Navara.

Abdul Rahman said Lin was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment while the bodies of the dead were sent to the district hospital here for post-mortem.

“Police have taken blood samples from all the victims for alcohol analysis as the location is a straight stretch, tarred and dry,” he said.

In a separate accident yesterday, a 24 year-old driver was injured after he lost control of his MyVi car and hit the flyover in Putatan.

The victim, who was believed to be on the way to Kinarut when the accident happened around 4.30am, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by the Civil Defence  Department personnel.

In yet another accident, a Perodua Kembara collided with a Proton Saga on Penampang Road around 12 midnight yesterday.

The 54-year-old driver of the Kembara was said to be leaving Penampang Baru and making a U-turn and the Saga, driven by a 28 year-old man, was travelling on Penampang Road when the collision occurred.
