PETALING JAYA: Youth associations and volunteer groups  are urged to apply for funding from Dana Sukarelawan 1Malaysia (DRe1M) towards making a success of their activities for society, said Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa.

Ali, who is also the ‘My Beautiful Malaysia’ programme organising committee chairman, said there was no maximum
limit for the funding but nevertheless, he believed the amounts sought would not be very high as the activities were volunteerism based and for the community.

“Application can be made by volunteer groups and associations but not individuals and the funds provided must be used for running of activities and purchase of equipment and not for payment of allowances,” he told reporters after the launching of the ‘My Beautiful Malaysia’ programme at the compound of Sekolah Taman Medan here yesterday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the programme which is also being held simultaneously in 390 locations throughout the country.

Ali said since the fund was launched in July last year, to date, of the RM100 million allocated for it, only RM200,000 had been disbursed and that was why youth associations and volunteer groups were encouraged to source funding from it.

According to him, the applications had to be done online and would be vetted by the 1Malaysia For Youth (1M4U) secretariat to ensure there was no abuse. — Bernama
