KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) has refuted allegations by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) that soil erosion and a landslide at Taman Mega Jaya, Ampang, resulted due to their failure to maintain a pumping station in the area.

Syabas Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Assistant General Manager Priscilla Alfred said a thorough investigation conducted on Jan 11 found there was no pumping station in the area, but instead a water storage plant for the use of consumers in Taman Mega Jaya and its neighbouring areas.

Besides that, she also denied leakage at the plant which caused water to flow and disturb the land structure leading to erosion and the landslide.

“Syabas also found that the land erosion occurred outside the plant area and was near to a big drain maintained by the MPAJ.

“We also want to emphasise that the water plant area is equipped with an internal drain to channel rain water to the big drain under the MPAJ,” she said in a statement here yesterday.

On Jan 11, a newspaper report stated the MPAJ alleged the erosion and landslide in Taman Mega Jaya, Ampang, was due to Syabas’ failure to maintain a pumping station there.

Therefore, she stressed that the incident was not related to Syabas as the area was under the purview of the MPAJ.

However, she said Syabas regarded the incident seriously as it happened near its asset and involved the safety of residents nearby. — Bernama
