SUNGAI SIPUT: Grief due to her husband’s death and living in a world of their own, may have led to the tragic death of a mother and her three children in a fire Monday night.

This was admitted by R Ramesh, 47, the brother of S Jayalatchumy.

“Maybe she was depressed and could not handle it, or could not accept the death of her husband. She has not been in touch with our family at all for almost three years,” he said when met by reporters at the Sungai Siput Hospital, here yesterday.

He said, Jayalatchumy, who was the fourth in the family, had also stayed away from all family gatherings during that time.

Ramesh, a production operator at a cement factory here, said Jayalatchumy had not informed them of her husband M Rajan’s, 48, death, believed to be due to lung cancer.

Housewife, S Jayalatchumy, 45, her two daughters R Thilagawati, 23, and R Puvaneswary, 21, and son R Suhan, 17, burnt to death in a fire at their rented house in Taman Bukit Medan Monday night. — Bernama
