KAPIT: Complaints have been made to the police here that some porters at the Kapit Terminal are charging express boat passengers exorbitant fees for their services.

This was revealed by Kapit police chief DSP Entusa Iman after chairing a meeting with Rela and Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) at police headquarters here Monday.

“Acting on the complaints, the police have notified SRB to resolve the matter.

“Apart from that, we also received complaints of porters rushing into boats arriving from Sibu to offer their service to carry passengers’ cargos. This obstructs the flow of disembarking passengers and poses danger,” he added.

On the meeting, Entusa said it was to find ways and means to ensure smooth flow of disembarking and boarding passengers at the Kapit Terminal to prevent untoward incidents from happening and to beef up security in view of the coming Chinese New Year celebration.

Attending the meeting were CID officer Inspector Mohd Nazari and head of management and logistics Inspector Kisam, Kapit Rela officer Anthony Lugad and officers from SRB.
