BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Two hundred high-powered motorcycle riders will be participating in the country’s first “Konvoi Kenali Negara Kitani 2013” (KKNK) from February 15 to 17, Borneo Bulletin reported

The “Know Our Country” convoy is organised by the Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA) and Harley Owners Group Brunei Chapter (HOGB), with support from the Department of Youth and Sports of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Brunei Tourism under the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources. The convoy is aimed at commemorating Brunei’s 29th National Day and to instil the spirit of patriotism and love for our country. It will also help promote tourism and market the beauty of Brunei to local and foreign participants joining the event, said Abd Malek Hamdani, Director of Harley Owners Group Brunei Chapter (HOGB 03) at the event’s press conference at the indoor Stadium Hassanal Bolkiah at the National Sports Complex.

The convoy will travel to Brunei-Muara, Tutong, Belait and Temburong Districts. They will visit and stop at various villages in the districts to mingle with the community whom they will introduce and showcase their respective cultures.

Kg Keriam and Kg Tasek Merimbun in Tutong, Kg Pandan in Belait and Kg Sibut in Temburong were selected as the destinations for the programme.

The event will also see the participation of riders from Sabah, Labuan, Kuching, Miri and Kota Kinabalu.

The participants will also benefit and obtain valuable information and knowledge on convoy procedures and discipline and safety rules and regulations while travelling, said Abd Malek.

Vice-President of PEMODA, Hj Khairol Hj Yaakub said the convoy received encouraging response. Registration for the convoy closed on January 30. “We targeted only 100 riders registering with the convoy. Alhamdulilah (praise to Allah), we already have 160 riders registered, excluding the committee members,” he said.

The convoy will be launched at the Royal Wharf. Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman will flag off the convoy. The closing ceremony will be held at the same place on February 17, said Rosmadee Hj Md Daud, Acting Deputy Director of Youth and Sports.

Rosmadee added the convoy will leave for Kg Keriam in Tutong on February 15 and leave for Belait district after Friday prayers. The convoy is expected to arrive in Kg Pandan, Belait at 4pm.

The convoy will leave for Kg Tasek Merimbun on February 16 at 10.30am for Temburong district. They are expected to arrive in Kg Sibut, Temburong at 4pm where they will stay overnight.

They will leave for Brunei Muara for the closing ceremony on February 17. The closing ceremony will be held about 4pm at the royal wharf.
