MIRI: An allegation describing that the oil, gas and maritime industry as a sunset industry is untrue, says Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui.

He said that based on a study conducted by Performance and Management Delivery Unit (Pemandu) and Prime Minister’s Department, the oil, gas and maritime industry would continue to grow here (Miri), Sabah, Labuan and Peninsular Malaysia.

Speaking at the opening of Miri Oil, Gas & Maritime Skilled Training seminar at Miri Marriot Resort and Spa here yesterday, Chin, who is also Miri MP said the government’s latest achievement in the industry was the implementation of a giant project in Johor.

He added that the industry had accelerated the country’s development.

“The government has formulated a transformation programme to ensure the country will be able to achieve a truly progressive country by 2020.”

Chin thus called on the people to be prepared in terms of human resource to support the growth of skill-related industries.

He said it was timely for the younger generation to take skill-related courses “which promises one bright future prospect with good income”.

Later at the same function, he has witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Technology & Engineering Association Northern Sarawak (TEA-NS) and Lott Inspection Sdn Bhd (Lott) on skill training programme development under the newly launched 1Malaysia Maritime & Oil Industry Skilled Scheme for Youth (SKIMM4U).

Signing on behalf of the association was its vice-president Hafizul Mohd Razali while Lott Inspection was represented by its managing director Masri Laiman.

Witnessing the event were Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang, deputy State Secretary Datu Ose Murang and deputy Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf.
