PENAMPANG: Rain or shine, the journey must go on. This was literally the kind of spirits shown by the more than 50 participants of the “Idle No More” Walk.

The walk began from Tambunan town on Friday with at least 47 people and the number increased to 150 participants when the group of individuals continued their journey from Kg Togoduon yesterday before ending their second day journey at Kg Babagon.

Despite facing the scorching sun, heavy rain, muscle pains, blisters, and exhaustion the group continued their walk, which is aimed at making a statement and voicing issues faced by the people pertaining to NCR lands, environment, and the elections.

“Idle No More: Arise and Walk for the Future of Sabah” was initiated by activist, Anne Lasimbang, supported by her family, friends, and numerous other individuals, including some of the natives who travelled from afar just to take part in the walk.

During the walk, participants stopped at checkpoints not only to rest but to mingle with the local communities, and say their prayers led by representatives of the Christians, Muslims, and Buddhists.

Thirteen individuals from the Himpunan Hijau in Peninsular Malaysia who had walked 300km from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur in protest of the Lynas also came and walked together with the group to show their support.

The walkers will continue their journey from Babagon to Inobong today, where thousands are expected to welcome them which culminate in three days and two nights, 60km journey from Tambunan to Penampang.
