KUCHING: A 68-year-old retiree lost about RM3,000 to a stranger who claimed she  could help her apply for an aid for senior citizens.

According to the victim, she met the stranger, who named herself as ‘Siti’, at the city centre around 10.30am on Saturday.

The victim was later persuaded by ‘Siti’ to follow her to another place to process the application for the aid.

When the victim and her grandchild were inside a dark blue Proton Saga, she was asked to remove her jewellery and place them inside her purse, which contained her personal documents and RM200. The Proton Saga was believed to belong to the suspect’s friend.

However, when the victim and her grandchild alighted from the car when they reached Satok, the suspect quickly snatched the wallet and the victim’s hand phone before fleeing from the scene.

A police report had been lodged.
