MIRI: Two food outlets here were ordered to close shop immediately over the weekend after they were found to be dirty and did not have proper halal certification.

They were nabbed during ‘Operasi Bersepadu Halal’, which was mounted by officers from Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (Miri), Health Department (Miri), Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism, the police, and Miri City Council.

One of the shops is located along Jalan Permaisuri while the other is near Miri Waterfront.

“The two premises were given immediate closure notice to cease operation temporarily as they failed to comply with halal and health requirements,” enforcement officer Kassim Yusop told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He added that both premises would only be allowed to resume operation after they clean up their act.

On ‘Operasi Bersepadu Halal’, Kassim said it was an ongoing initiative to ensure no one misuse the halal logo and to make sure kitchens are clean.
