MIRI: PKR chief here Dr Michael Teo says the recently unveiled Pakatan Rakyat (PR) election manifesto is timely and effective for the coming general election.

The manifesto was unveiled by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ahead of Barisan Nasional’s which would be announced soon.

“Money is lost through corruption, wastages from over-inflated projects, and leakages of money out of the country. If these can be cut, billions of ringgit will be saved,” said Dr Teo in response to BN suggestion that implementing the PR pledges would bankrupt the country.

Dr Teo said that as far as Sarawak was concerned money saved could be used to build more low-cost housing projects, “that will effectively solve the squatters’ problem here (Miri) numbering more than 4,000 families”.

Although no specific oil royalty was mentioned for Sarawak and Sabah, Dr Teo believed that a matching increase would be provided to boost Miri’s and the state’s economy.

“Everyone will enjoy cheaper cars and fuel for many years, which is what most families want,” he said.

He also highlighted the recognition of UEC school certificates and free education as of particularly importance to the Chinese community.
