Woman in confinement sent to jail for prostitution

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman, who is still in confinement following the birth of her fifth child a month ago, was yesterday sentenced to two months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for prostitution.

Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin handed down the sentence on Rosmalini Hussin, 31, to be served from the date of arrest, last Feb 24, after she pleaded guilty to the charge.

Rosmalini was charged with offering sex service to Sergeant Major P Ravidran, 50, from the D7 branch of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent, in front of a hotel at Jalan Raja Laut here at 8.05pm last Feb 24.

In mitigation, Rosmalini said she was still in confinement and had four other children, aged between two and 10 years, and her husband was employed as a security guard.

Prosecuting officer Insp Zuraimi Kamarozzaman prosecuted. —Bernama
