KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian army is ‘combat ready’ in defending the country’s sovereignty and interests at all times.

Its chief, General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, said every formation and team in the army should strive to improve its readiness in the respective areas of responsibility.

“All formations and units should streamline their contingency plans to face any eventuality.

“In this regard, the army will provide all formations and units with various equipment and weapons based on current financial allocation and needs,” he said when speaking at the 80th anniversary celebration of the Malaysian Army here yesterday.

He said the Army would continue to be developed under its ‘Army 2 10 Plus 10’ strategy, as well as the ‘Fourth Dimension of the Malaysian Armed Forces’ (4D MAF), aimed at making the security forces versatile in the various spectra of war.

“The ‘Army 2 10 Plus 10’ strategy has outlined the direction and strategic development of the army as a forceful, credible, deployable and versatile team.

“The 4D MAF, introduced in 2008, is a transformation aimed at empowering the army as an integrated force,” added Zulkifli.

He said the Malaysian Army would be embarking on a massive maintenance exercise under the ‘Army Care’ programme to ensure better quality of life for the men and their families at the camps.

“This includes the construction of new camps and family houses nationwide. The better living environment is aimed at uplifting the morale of every member of the army to serve the nation,” he said. — Bernama
