Pursue your dreams with passion, enthusiasm and determination, youths advised

KUCHING: Youngsters should pursue their dream in music if they are really interested in it.

In giving this advice, RTM Sarawak’s head of orchestra Mohammad Dadi Rafaiee said the younger generation must realise their dreams with passion, enthusiasm and determination.

“No music, no life. Music is part of life. Never give up. Young people should dream big and I hope they can go far to reach the international stage,” he said at the ‘Muzik Akustik’ workshop organised by State Library (Pustaka Negeri Sarawak) at its premises in Petra Jaya yesterday.

He advised them to first go for professional music training. When their skills are mature and they are prepared, they could join competition and, hopefully, they could enter bigger market to develop their music career.

“It is not easy to survive here with music because of limited sources and opportunities. The local market can be improved. In future, it will be better and more opportunities here,” he said.

Dadi (percussion player) and his O-Skool Acoustic and Show Band members Sukarno Ishak (double bass player) and Jamalludin Sejili (guitarist and vocalist) shared their music experience with over 200 enthusiasts in the audience.

The participants were university students from Unimas, Teacher’s Training College and UiTM, secondary schools, government servants and the general public.

Dadi, who has worked at RTM for 20 over years, said apart from the theory music students learn at school, his music experience sharing would help the music enthusiasts to develop their music career too.

He and his band members demonstrated acoustic music and played some musical instruments like bongo, double bass, acoustic guitar and percussions.

He shared his live performance experiences and other practical skills like song composing and how to manage and market the band, giving the audience an idea on how to realise their dreams.

He encouraged young music talents to enjoy music and spend their free time in playing music because it is an enjoyable and healthy activity.

During the Q&A session, Dadi and his band members also gave tips and answers to those who brought musical instruments to the workshop.

O-Skool Acoustic and Show Band was set up in 2009 and actively performs at corporate and public functions, and also in hotels, wedding and wherever they are needed.

PNS organised this workshop targeting youth with the aim to promote acoustic music and provide a platform for musicians to interact and exchange ideas.
