SUNGAI PETANI: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) on Sunday proposed that the number of uniforms provided to each uniformed civil servant be increased to five.

Its president, Datuk Omar Osman, said right now each uniformed civil servant, such as nurses, Customs, Road Transport Department, Fire and Rescue Department and Immigration Department personnel, were only given three pairs of uniforms.

“We want these staff to be provided with five pairs of uniforms, together with three pairs of shoes,” he told a press conference here on Sunday.

Omar also called on the government to review the proposal to give a special incentive to civil servants working on night shifts.

“We propose for a special incentive of RM100 to be given to civil servants working between midnight and 7am,” he said.

Omar said Cuepacs also demanded that the Permanent Housing Allowance and Cost of Living Allowance for civil servants be reviewed and adjusted and that he hoped that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would announce some good news about the matters at the Civil Servants Gathering scheduled for March 11 in Putrajaya.

“The minimum rate of the Permanent Housing Allowance has not been reviewed for almost 20 years. We proposed it to be increased to RM450 from the current RM180,” he said.

In another development, he said Cuepacs also called on Kedah state government to take seriously the issue of time-based promotion, which had yet to be implemented for some 300 teachers at all 10 branches of Mahmud College.

“We have received an official report saying that the teachers have yet to enjoy the time-based promotion announced by the federal government as compared to their counterparts in other educational institutions.

“They called for Cuepacs’ assistance and we hope that the state government would take appropriate action to enable teachers at the college to enjoy the time-based promotion,” he said.

Earlier, Omar attended the Transformation Courses for Nursing Profession organised by National Nursing Association here. — Bernama
