Too early to declare support — Nissom

KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Tasik Biru division does not want to create unnecessary controversy in Mas Gading by declaring support for any probable Barisan Nasional candidate just yet, said its chairman Datuk Wilfred Nissom.

Nissom, who is also PRS secretary general, was responding to Monday’s news report in which Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) vice-president Rayan Narong singled out PRS for not having openly supported SPDP’s recommended candidate in Mas Gading.

Rayan, who is also SPDP Opar chairman, had said it was now almost certain for Anthony Nogeh Gumbek, the party’s recommended candidate, to be accepted to stand on the BN ticket in the coming general election.

“All signs are showing that Anthony Nogeh will be the candidate.

“So far, the Opar and Tasik Biru branches of PBB and SUPP have pledged their support for Anthony Nogeh. PRS, despite not having big number of members, have yet to do so,” he told the audience at the ‘Makant Bakomok’ (communal dinner) in Kampung Jangkar, near Lundu, on Sunday night.

Nogeh, currently Salcra deputy general manager, was the only name submitted by SPDP to the BN headquarters to replace the incumbent, MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe.

The Group of Five (G5), an informal grouping of five elected representatives sacked from SPDP, are still trying to get Dr Tiki to stand as BN direct candidate.
