‘Verification took too long’

KUCHING: DAP state secretary Chong Chieng Jen yesterday expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of police officers who have lost their lives in the Lahad Datu stand-off.

Chong however believed that the lives of these officers could be spared if swift and proper actions were taken by the government to verify if the situation was an internal or external threat.

“It took them (government) a month to verify the situation. This is totally unacceptable when lives of young and capable police officers are lost,” said Chong who is also Bandar Kuching MP.

He also said that the situation could well be avoided if the police special branch had given their focus on national security instead of focusing on them (opposition).

Chong also said that he gave his full support to the call of a PAS member of parliament in Peninsular Malaysia to hold an emergency parliament sitting to address the Lahad Datu intrusion.
