KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is not worried about who the party will face in the impending 13th general election.

Its secretary-general Datuk Wilfred Nissom said the party was ready for the polls.

The seats allocated to PRS are Sri Aman, LubokAntu, Selangau, Kanowit, Hulu Rajang and Julau.

“The party is already prepared for the election and is not worried about who it will face in all the six seats,” Nissom said in his texted interview from Kanowit.

PRS is expected to face candidates from Sarawak Workers Party (SWP), which claimed to be BarisanNasional (BN) friendly besides Pakatan Rakyat, at least.

The party has renominated its five MPs, except the one for Hulu Rajang. It has picked Wilson Ugak to replace Datuk Billy Abit Joo there.

SWP has announced several times publicly that the party would contest in all the six seats held by PRS.

While SWP has announced the candidates for Julau and Hulu Rajang, it has yet to announce its candidates for the remaining four seats although party president Larry Sng told a press conference on Feb 19 that they would finalise its list of candidates on Feb 22.

Wong Judat, who is also Meluan assemblyman will be contesting in Julau, and Pelagus assemblyman George Lagong in Hulu Rajang.

Meanwhile, political observers said it was quite certain that Sng would contest in LubokAntu, noting that he had been quite busy making his rounds in that constituency.

It was also believed that the party had already prepared posters for Julau, Hulu Rajang and LubokAntu.
