SIBU: The responsibility in protecting the country from foreign elements should be shouldered by all Malaysians, and the deadly intrusion by Sulu gunmen in Sabah is a classic case in point.

Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee said while our security forces are defending the nation’s sovereignty in the frontline, the general public could play their part by rallying behind the government to ensure peace and harmony continue to prevail.

“The foreign intrusion in Sabah serves as a wakeup call to all Malaysians on the important roles played by our security forces in defending the country,” he said at a dinner organised by Sibu District Rela Office in collaboration with Teku Area Rela Community Service Centre on Saturday.

“We must realise that we must never gamble on security matters.”

Dr Annuar urged Rela members to stand solidly behind the BN government in the fast-approaching 13th general election and help make sure BN wins both Sibu and Lanang with a handsome majority.

“If BN candidates win with big majorities the rakyat will benefit from it because only the BN government can walk the talk in bringing more infrastructure development for the people of Sibu and a better quality of life for our children.”

Lanang MP Datuk Tiong Thai King, who was also present, urged Rela members to continue serving  society with their hearts and with commitment.
