KUCHING: With the fourth Borneo Post International Education Fair (BPIEF 2013) coming to its conclusion last weekend, organising chairman Dorge Rajah does not consider his team’s work done.

As far as he is concerned, the pursuit of education is a 365-day commitment, and those interested in the latest happenings can continue to share and find out at the BPIEF Facebook page (search for ‘The Borneo Post Education Fair’).

“So far, we’ve done what we think you want. Now you can tell us what you would like to see in the fifth BPIEF,” said Dorge.

Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, Dorge said they were interested in finding simple ways to make the process richer.

“We want to make the quest for education a fun process while taking the future seriously.”

BPIEF 2013 took place last Saturday and Sunday at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Dorge is looking into drawing more students next time, with an eye on bringing more participation from outside Kuching.

“We’ve been asked to bring the fair to Miri and Kota Kinabalu. We will be considering it as part of BPIEF’s future.”

This year’s student crowd was quite responsive, especially with organisers providing a bus to collect students and accompanying teachers from their schools.

The schools that visited were SMK St Thomas, SMK DPHA Gapor, CHMS No 4, SMK Matang Hilir, SMK Tabuan Jaya, SMK St Joseph, SMK Seri Setia, SMK Pending, SMK St Mary, SMK Tunas Bakti, SMK Petra Jaya, SMK Green Road, SMK Bako and Batu Lintang Vocational School.

Dorge said there were several new activities that were unexpected hits, citing the flash mob organised by Soul Dance Event Management as well received.

Maison Monica Hair and Beauty Academy was also very popular with its on-the-spot manicure and hair styling services.

Meanwhile, the game booth saw a steady queue from opening to closing on both days.

Nestle’s Koko Bear was also a hit with both children and adults, and possibly the most photographed personality on the floor during the fair.

“We will look into organising something new for the children next year.”

As for things that the organising committee had to fine-tune over the years, Dorge said that providing food to exhibitors didn’t materialise until last year.

This year, it ran more smoothly with the venue providing convention-level food at affordable prices to visitors.

So far, more than 10 exhibitors have already signed up for next year’s BPIEF.
