BAU: An active mortar-like bomb, believed to have been used during the time of the Indonesian Confrontation, was found in Kampung Skio here last Saturday.

Bau police chief DSP Mohd Sabri Zainol said a 39-year-old villager came across the bomb near his farm.

“The mortar of 65-millimetre gauge remained active all this time, and was safely triggered at 10.20am on Sunday,” he said at the Bau Police Headquarters yesterday.

The police bomb squad led by ASP Wan Zulkifli triggered the mortar at the site where it was found.

“It is not the first time a bomb has been found in this district,” said Sabri.

He hoped villagers here would continue to alert the authorities if they unearthed similar life-threatening objects.
