KUALA LUMPUR: The latest increase in salaries for the police, armed forces and civil servants, following the streamline of salary scales with the public service sector is undoubtedly, a step in the right direction.

Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said, it was indeed, a fitting appreciation of the services rendered by the police and armed forces to the country.

He said, it was all the more so, in view of the Lahad Datu intrusion by terrorists.

In a statement here yesterday, he said it was also a recognition to the civil servants for their service to the country.

The 1.4 million civil servants, including the police and armed forces, will also receive between RM80 and RM320, as part of their annual increment, effective July 1.

“With the rise in their salaries, we hope it will further motivate our civil servants, police and the armed forces to serve the country with greater dedication and commitment,” said Lee. — Bernama
