MIRI: A man, in his 30s, sustained injuries to his face and body after 10 Indonesians beat him up at Jalan Padang at about 1pm on Friday.

According to sources, the victim had earlier approached one of the suspects, who was waiting at the bus station at Jalan Padang, and demanded money from him.

Furious over the man’s audacity, the suspect broke into a verbal attack on the victim and an altercation followed.

The disturbance attracted the attention of the suspect’s friends who subsequently came to the aid of their countryman. The victim did not stand a chance when 10 of them set upon him.

Lucky for the victim, the group (the Indonesians) fled the scene upon seeing an approaching Mobile Police Vehicle that was informed of the incident by bystanders.

The suspects were still at large at press time.

The victim, who was found some 200 metres from the station, curled up in pain with his face covered in blood, was rushed to Miri Hospital for medical treatment.

The sources added that the victim had tried to get away when he was set upon by the group of men but apparently he did not succeed.
