NIBONG TEBAL : Thees tablishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry and a White Paper to investigate allegations of third party involvement in the terrorist intrusion into Lahad Datu, Sabah will also ensure such incidents do not recur.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said, an indepth investigation should be carried out to identify those involved.

“This is a crucial matter. We cannot take lightly matters on national security. If we do not nip the (activities of the) mastermind in the bud, it would cause more trouble for the people in future,” he said.

Mohd Shafi e, who is also rural and regional development minister, was speaking to reporters after opening a RM1.5 million jetty for fi shermen in Sungai Udang, and presentation of living allowance to 748 fi shermen here yesterday.

He said an indepthand comprehensive investigation should be carried out as the repercussions of the intrusion were felt, not only by residents in villages but also traders who suffered from poor business.

He said he was sure the Lahad Datu incident would be resolved soon by the combined efforts of the police and armed forces.

“Leave it to the police and armed forces. I am quite sure it (Lahad Datu incident) will be settled anytime now.”

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafie said the federal government would consider giving aid to fi shermen and traders who were affected by the Lahad Datu incident.

He said the matter was discussed with Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein to assist the  community facing difficulties in Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak areas. — Bernama
