BINTULU: Three students from SMK Bintulu scored straight As in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination 2012, the results of which were announced recently.

There are Amy Loi Yee Yee, Moy Ying Hui and Ella Musang with a CGPA (Cumulative Grading Point Average) of 3.92.

Their principal Ananthan Subramaniam when met said he was happy with his students’ achievement and the results had improved compared to 2011 when there were no straight As.

Students who sat for the 2012 STPM examination are the last batch under the old format as starting this year, it will be on a semester basis.

He said the Education Ministry decided to revamp the examination format from one final exam to include school-based assessments and assessments at the end of each semester.

“This year (2013) we have about 130 candidates who will be sitting for the STPM examination under this new system,” said Ananthan.

Last year, a total of 123 candidates sat for the examination with a 90.68 per cent pass rate and GNP of 2.21.

A top student Ella from Sebauh sub-district attributed her outstanding results to hard work and prayers.

The youngest daughter of four siblings hoped to study accounting at Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Among the top students scoring CGPA of 3.0 and above are Connie Majang, Muhaiyah Abdul Malik, Nornadiatulnisa Samsuddin, Susan Jittai, Afza Shalqimie Mohamad Arbi, Ting Chee Kang, Fatimahwati Kamit, Noor Afila Aji, Ling Ging Yee, Nur Haziqa Fadhilah Rakaee, Nurmiftah Huljannah Norlee, Chai Lee Ling, Nur Aiman Roslan, Ting Hock Yong, Patrick Kong Nieng Yih, Sema Patan, Faridzuan Suhaili, Mimi Loma Jilan, Musdalipah Ariffin, Julita Yek Suh Chyng, Chieng Nguan Zuan, Wong Lin Han, Angelina Mimy Runai Atam, Timbung Saka and Buda Rantai.
